Coffee and Brain Octane Oil
To understand the benefits of bulletproof coffee, you need to learn about the particular fats that go into it.
Bulletproof Coffee Ingredients
This yummy and rich morning beverage (for a starter, you can drink decaf later) is made with organic single source (not mixed beans from multiple plantations), a special extract of coconut oil, and grass fed butter.

The oil in this offer is an extract of coconut oil and that process saves you from ingesting almost 20 tablespoons a day of coconut oil. Seriously that is how much you would need to get the amount of the medium chain triglyceride (that does not go through the liver for internal use) and is included in this kit for:
- mental clarity
- enhanced mood
Organic (solvent free) coconut oil is healthy too, but it’s about 50% long chain triglycerides which will need assimilating by the liver and will not give that quick a brain boost or the muscle energy you are seeking.
Grass fed butter is a 1:1 ratio of Omega 6 oil to Omega 3 oil. In stark contrast, commercial butter has a 9:1 ratio. When you get a predominance of omega 6 oil in the body, you have engendered an inflammatory condition. (There are exceptions for rare cases that are omega 6 oil deficient.)
The optimum ratio is 1:1 to 3:1.
Butter and flaxseed oil are the two that come anywhere close to that. Two examples of outrageous departure from this ideal is corn oil and cotton seed oil found in many grocery shelf salad oils — 72:1 and 234:1 respectively.

If you are sensitive to the salicylates in coconut oil, you can use the pasture fed butter instead.

Use of healthy and grass fed fats and saturated fats from plants at this time is a true one eighty from the vilification of these foods that went on for decades. To your health!

I have. I find that I don’t need to eat for about two hours afterwords. I get the coffee boost in a good way. I’ve always had to wake up fast and get focused so I’m not sure I get more of a boost than I’ve always had from necessity lol. But I do understand how it’s good for the brain being an anti-inflammatory concoction. And it tastes delicious! Thanks for your comment!
When I was a kid, it seemed like there was a push for everything to be “fat-free”, but now I read lots of articles that explain how your body actually needs certain fats to function properly.
I think I’ve heard about Bulletproof Coffee before. Some of the people who use it say it gives them an incredible boost in the morning and they are very sharp mentally. That seems to be consistent with the benefits you’ve mentioned. Have you tried using BP Coffee before?
I know someone who also cannot use coconut oil and she uses only the grass fed butter. I do recommend “Fats That Heal Fats That Kill” by Udo Erasmus for further information. Tons of information. It sounds like you’ve researched well for yourself, that’s great.
My blood type is not compatible with coconut anything – oil, milk, flesh, etc. So I can’t see how the combination of coconut oil and coffee will be of benefit to me.
I think that since I eat a very healthy regime by eating according to my blood and genotype, many of the cholesterol and heart issues that people face are minimised.
I found your article reasonably informative but didn’t grasp all the benefits of bulletproof coffee. Do you have any scientific or anecdotal evidence of the benefits?
Thank you.
Hi Alyssa! This bulletproof coffee whips up (I use a Nutribullet) rich and foamy. I use a few drops of Sweet Leaf (no solvents) Stevia, either Vanilla Cream or Butterscotch. Zero calories from that. I don’t count the calories from the butter or coconut oil because the fat will burn! And it’s my breakfast! I truly don’t get hungry for about 4-5 hours. Also I have lost three pounds this past month. Works for me!
I like the name bulletproof coffee. It makes me think that I’d be invincible throughout the day. I’m still learning about healthy oils and fats vs the non-healthy ones. If I understand correctly, this coffee has a lot of good oils in it. But, I’m concerned about calories and points…will this add a lot of calories to my breakfast if I drink it every day?
What do people say about the taste compared to “normal” coffee?
Thanks.
Alyssa
